Program description

The Optometry Bachelor’s Program prepares healthcare professionals specialized in visual health and primary ophthalmologic care. The field of optometry focuses on the early detection, assessment, and correction of visual impairments, particularly refractive errors, as well as the screening and prevention of ocular diseases. Optometrists serve as the first point of contact for individuals experiencing vision problems and play a key role in maintaining visual health throughout life.

The program is oriented toward both theoretical and applied education, combining biomedical knowledge with advanced practical skills in optometric assessment and optical device use. Optometrists are trained to conduct functional examinations of vision, prescribe and adapt corrective lenses, and recommend specialized consultations when needed. They contribute to the well-being of the population by promoting visual health and preventing ocular morbidity.

Accredited by the National Agency for Quality Assurance in Education and Research (ANACEC) in 2022, the Optometry program aligns with international trends in vision care and is implemented at Nicolae Testemițanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy.
